2023 Scholarship Official Rules

The Award
The Scholarship program offers four (4) non-recurring awards of $2,500 each.

Eligibility
The applicant must be a member, a child or grandchild of a member in good standing with Kirtland Credit Union. A sponsoring member’s name and member number is required on the entry documentation. Failure to name a sponsor will cause a non-member entry to be excluded from judging.

Applicant must be a high-school graduating senior and accepted to an accredited 2- or 4-year institution and attending college for the first time. Scholarship must be used exclusively to pay the tuition or associated costs of named winner only at an accredited 2- or 4- year institution.

Applicants consent to Kirtland CU’s use of their name, statements and likeness without compensation in any and all promotional
and advertising activity, both print and online.

Application Process
An applicant may submit only one entry. Eligible applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed online form.
  • The applicant must accept the terms to submit.
  • An original essay on the assigned topic, 500–700 words in length (must be English). Essay must be typed in Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri font (no larger than 12 pt.) and submitted either in Word or PDF format.
  • A copy of an acceptance letter or other proof of acceptance from an accredited 2- or 4-year institution.
  • A current headshot photo (jpeg or png file at 300 dpi)

 

Other than specified above, no attachments, resumes, pictures or other material of any kind should be submitted or used to answer questions.

2023 Essay Topic:

If you could create your own nonprofit organization (charity) for Kirtland CU to support, what would it be, why and what impact would that nonprofit organization have on our community?

Please be prepared and have the following documents ready to upload at the time you complete our online application form:

  1. Essay between 500-700 word in length on the above defined topic
  2. Copy of your college acceptance letter (or other proof of attendance) for Fall 2023
  3. A current headshot photo (jpeg or png at 300 dpi)

Past applicants and Kirtland CU employees, volunteers and their immediate families are not eligible for consideration. Kirtland CU is not responsible for lost or late applications. Kirtland CU reserves the right to disqualify applications who make any misrepresentations on their application or supporting documents. All applications and supporting documents will be kept confidential, and become property of Kirtland Credit Union and will not be returned. No purchase necessary. Selection will be made without regard to applicant’s race, color, ethnic origin, religious belief, sex, marital status or physical ability. Scholarship winners will be announced on or around August 1, 2023. Applicant agrees to accept the decisions of Kirtland Credit Union as final.
